USS Hornet Museum
An Essex class US Navy Aircraft Carrier(CV-12). My second Aircraft Carrier experience after Intrepid at NY. Originally named USS Kearsarge, but renamed as Hornet after the sunk of USS Hornet CV-8 at the battle of the Santa Cruz at Pasific. CV-8 was famous with the Doolittle Raid.
Not less famous than the CV-8; CV-12 took place at main part of WWII, Operation Magic Carpet, Vietnam War and Apollo Program (Apollo 11 & 12).
I have reached the museum via ferry which departs from Ferry Building at SF, you can either have the option which departs from Pier 41 as well. The way takes approximately 45 min and after this you reach to Oakland Inner Harbor. You gotta walk 35-45 minutes or you can take Uber just as I did.
USS Hornet is not as well-kept as Intrepid. Also the displayed aircrafts are less but this is no matter. How many earthling has a change to see such historical carrier.
Luckly, I have visited Hornet at Veterans Day. There was a nice ceremony with served traditional yummy Apple Pies:) Also we have took place at a guided tour of the brig and island. Got lots of information especially navigation of the ship.
