Aircraft Carrier Trio (Intrepid-Hornet-Midway)
A dream of mine came true in 2013. Up to that date I have been to many aviation museums but not a museum aircraft carrier.
USS Intrepid (CV-11) was fascinating. As not only as an arcraft carrier but full of diffrent kind of exhibits. I thought that I will spend all the day at the decks of it. But I had an obstacle. My beloved wife J .Since the vacation covers the east of USA we have only 2,5 days at NY. And as Sinatra sings Newyork NewYork, there lots of other places to visit..
What caught my attention was that it appeared in a condition that would sail anytime if the ship was being refueled. I understood how much right I am after visiting Hornet in 2016.
She was commissioned in August 1943 and participated many campaigns at pasific in WWII. She was modernized and recommissioned in the early 1950s as an attack carrier (CVA) and then eventually became an antisubmarine carrier (CVS), as well.
Despite her main pasific carrier she has served in the Vietnam War,too. Her notable achievements include being the recovery ship for a “Mercury” and a “Gemini” space missions.
I have re-visited this beatiful ship in 2015 once more time.
Then I realize why not visit more aircraft carriers. Now, my next missions are Hornet and Midway...
Tickets booked on on March 2016 for November 2016 with a fellow. #1 mission was sure Hornet and missin #2 was burgers.
USS Hornet (CV-12) is an Essex class carrier like Intrepid. Commisioned in late 1943 and passed her all life at the missions of Pasific, except a minor role in Vietnam War. Also she played an historical role for recovering the Apollo11 and Apollo 12 astronauts whom returned from Moon. Even this is something great enough to write history.
The visit day was luckly a veteran day that we have to find chance to eat home made American Apple Pies .
The Grey Ghost is the most neglected carrier between Intrepid,Hornet and Midway trio. Too much rust, almost and empty flying deck. But rests at beautiful city, San Francisco.
Yes, now the route was Midway..
USS Midway (CV-41) is the lead ship of her class. The biggest and youngest of all. Like Intrepid she was located at the hearth of the city.Upper and lower decks are completely full.
Briefly, mission accomplish succesfully. From 2013 to 2020 I have visited Intrepid and Hornet also twice. All aircraft images are loaded at the Museums section. Please have a glance at. At this blog article I have shared some diffrent photos ather than fliying objects.
